If you’re still wondering what to do with that defunct snow blower collecting dust in the garage, or what about the behemoth computer in the basement? Then, hey, it’s time to make a move and recycle! The city of St. Charles in sponsorship with WITS, Inc., will once again host a free monthly Electronic Recycling Event available to all area businesses and residents in St. Charles, Warren and Lincoln Counties.
Some items may now have fees in MO, please check HERE to confirm before dropping off. Donors will receive tax letters, and are also guaranteed hard-drive security destruction. WITS will also offer free pick-up services the third week of every month for area businesses with large quantity items, as well as special services for elderly or physically challenged residents requiring assistance (please call 314-558-0090 for more information related to special pick-up services).
WITS or Web Innovations & Technology Services builds communities through reuse, recycling and education. Items – working or not – accepted in the monthly recycling drive include:
- Any items with a power cord
- Any items that take batteries or gas, including batteries
- Lawn equipment
- All computer-related equipment
- Household electronics, including phones, radios, televisions and cable boxes
- All appliances
Suggested items for recycling include: computers, monitors, other computer hardware, including cables, office/business equipment and machinery, telecommunications equipment, including phones and clocks, televisions, VCRs, stereos, cameras, other audio/video equipment, data storage devices, including CDs, VHS tapes and computer software, home electronics, blenders, toasters, irons, washing machines and dryers, dishwashers, furnaces, hot water heaters, home medical equipment, lawn mowers, tillers, tools, air conditioners, refrigerators, humidifiers, old motors, transformers, electrical equipment, power supplies, and car batteries.
Items not accepted: paint and paint cans, CRT, Projection, monitors or Televisions, wood furniture, other wood products, tires, household chemicals and weekly recycling items. Monitors are televisions are currently accepted for free recycling by Best Buy (up to 3 per household per month). As a not-for-profit, community agency in the Greater St. Louis region, WITS operates 16 permanent drop-off locations in Missouri and Illinois (refer to website for complete details). All donations of reusable items are tax-deductible and will be refurbished when possible, and given to one of the agency’s programs such as Kids for Kancer, Free Computer Program or Veteran Technology.
